What are the ARO Directories?

There are three Directories on the ARO website: the ARO Research Directory, the ARO Course Directory and the ARO Grant Directory. The ARO Research Directory contains listings of research projects such as large academic research programs, PhD projects, independent research reports and statistical reporting papers. The ARO Course Directory contains listings of courses of study relevant to ageing that are offered at a number of academic Institutions in Australia such as postgraduate coursework and research programs. The ARO Grants Directory contains listings of grants, awards and scholarships offered to people conducting research related to ageing such as the RM Gibson Scientific Research Fund which offers up to 3 grants a year for medical scientific research in the field of gerontology.

What is a Research Entry?

A Research Entry is a detailed listing of a research project. It includes information on the purpose and aims of the project, the timeframe over which the project is being carried out, research methodology used in the research, the names and contact details for the researchers working on the project, as well as information relating to the organizations and funding bodies associated with the project. A Research Entry is created and contributed to the site by a researcher or assistant linked to the project and can be found by searching in the ARO Research Directory.

What is a Course Entry?

A Course Entry is a detailed listing of a course of study. It includes a brief description of the scope of the course, details regarding the duration of study, pre-requisites, and contact details for enrollment information.

What is a Grant Entry?

A Grant Entry is a detailed listing of a grant, award or scholarship offered to people conducting research relevant to ageing. It includes a brief description of the grant including the amount provided, duration of funding, eligibility criteria and contact details for application information.

How do I add an ARO Directory entry?

You must be a registered user of the ARO site to add an entry to an ARO Directory. Once you are registered, you will need to log in to the ARO site using your email and password. This will take you to your personal ARO Profile page. Click on “add” next to the ARO Directory to which you would like to add an entry (Research entry, Grant entry or Course entry) and follow the steps in the entry wizard.

Should I register to add ARO Directory entries?

You should register to add ARO Directory entries if you are conducting ageing research, and/or representing an organisation that provides courses or grants relevant to ageing.

How do I register to add an ARO Directory entry?

To register with the ARO site, click on “NEW USER” at the top of the menu on the left-hand side of the ARO homepage and complete the registration form. This will create your personal ARO Profile. Each time you enter the site you will need to log in using your email address and password to be able to add ARO Directory entries or Noticeboard listings and participate in the online Forum.

What is a My ARO Profile?

When you register with the ARO site and create your ARO Profile you enter your personal details such as your name, contact details, and organisation. The ARO site then creates a personal ARO Profile page for you, which shows the type of access you have to the site and lists the items you have contributed to the ARO Directories (research entries, course entries and grant entries). From your personal ARO Profile page you can edit your personal details, change your email address or password, view and edit entries you have contributed to ARO Directories, and add new items to ARO Directories. Once you have logged in using your email address and password, you can navigate to your personal ARO Profile page at any time by clicking on the “My ARO Profile page” link at the top of the menu on the left-hand side of every ARO page.

Who can access my ARO Profile?

The information contained in your ARO Profile is not made public - you are the only one who can access your ARO Profile (aside from the site Administrator), so long as you don’t share your password with anyone. Only information that you include in entries in ARO Directories (e.g. a research listing) or that you post on the ARO Noticeboard or Forum can be seen by other users of the site. The information contained in your ARO Profile will not be shared with anyone or used for any purpose without your permission. See the ARO Privacy Policy for more information.

How do I find an ARO Directory entry?

You can search any of the ARO Directories for a specific listing or for listings associated with a particular topic. Click on the Directory you would like to search in under “Search” on the menu bar on the left-hand side of the ARO Homepage. This will open a search page which allows you to enter your search criteria. If you would like to search by keyword, you can use the “Text” box at the top of the search page. The “Advanced” search criteria on the Research Directory search page allow you to further define your search based on information such as author/researcher, organisation, research methodology and date ranges.

How do I change an ARO Directory entry?

Only the person who created the ARO Directory entry or the site Administrator can change it. To change an ARO Directory entry that you created, you should first log in to the site using your email and password. This will take you to your personal ARO Homepage which lists all ARO Directory entries that you have created. Click on “Edit” next to the entry you wish to update and you will be able to access and make changes to any of the information associated with the entry. If an ARO Directory entry needs to be deleted, please contact the site administrator.

What is the Notice Board?

The Noticeboard is a facility for providing information on upcoming events relevant to ageing such as conferences and seminars. People registered with the ARO are able to post notices directly to the Notice board.

How do I post a notice on the Notice board?

Anyone who is registered with ARO and who is logged in to the site can post a notice to the Notice board by clicking on ‘Add Notice board Entry’ and providing the relevant information. Please remember that your notice will be seen by all ARO users. Appropriate notices include information on conferences, seminars and similar events. All notices will be approved by the site Administrator prior to being added to the Noticeboard.

How do I change or delete a Noticeboard message?

Only the site Administrator is able to change or delete a Noticeboard message. If you find an error in a Noticeboard message or if a listing needs to be removed or updated, please contact the site administrator. Noticeboard messages will be removed after the nominated event end date.

The Resources section contains links to resources relevant to ageing, such as government publications and reports.

How can I subscribe to the ARO newsletter?

Anyone can subscribe to the ARO email newsletter - you don’t even need to be a registered user of the ARO website. Simply add your email address in the box in the top left-hand corner of the ARO Homepage and click on the “Subscribe” button. If you wish to stop receiving the ARO newsletter, instructions on how to remove your email address from the mailing list are included with ever issue. We will not share your email address with anyone or use your contact details for any other purpose without your permission. See the ARO Privacy Policy for more information.
