DVA Research Funding is available The DVA Health and Medical Applied Research Program (ARP) is the Department's formal research program with a budget of approximately $2 million per annum. The Health and Medical Applied Research Program commissions research that contributes to the development of improved models for health care and service delivery for the DVA. High quality research allows the Department to better identify the health and well-being needs of the veteran and defence communities, including their dependents and carers. DVA holds four research seminars each year to provide insight into the current research being undertaken into the health and well-being of the Australian veteran and defence communities. The Seminar series attracts a large cross-section of attendees from both veteran, military and the broader Health and Aged Care sectors. The seminars are available on DVD and public access is currently available at the ACT office. In future public access will be available through teleconferencing at all State and Territory offices. DVA Research (Current and Previous) Health Studies DVA Health and Medical Research DVA research aligns with the Departments research priorities. DVA research regarding older veterans is listed on the ARO website. Additional DVA health and medical research regarding younger veterans, defence members and their dependants and carers is available from DVA. This information is available for researchers, DVA client groups and public dissemination. Access to current and previous research, other than ageing research relating to older veterans listed on the ARO, is presenting available through DVA offices and on the DVA website (note this is currently being updated so please contact DVA is you are unable to locate your research of interest).
DVA works in conjunction with a wide range of research organisations. DVA provides funding to the Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Stress and Mental Health (ACPMH) and the Centre for Military and Veterans Health (CMVH). DVA works collaboratively with universities and leading research centres including the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). DVA applies National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) national research and practice guidelines to expand research information regarding best practice for Australian veterans and defence force groups eligible for DVA services.
